Disability Confident with the Papworth Trust

As the leading recruitment specialist in the east of England, we’re passionate about creating better workplaces across our region. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Papworth Trust to offer this free webinar. Join us to find out how your organisation can improve your workplace for disabled people, and become ‘Disability Confident’.

Disability Confident_Cambridge Network

Papworth Trust has offered vital housing, employment, care, training and leisure services to disabled people in the east of England since 1917. They also help disabled and disadvantaged people find work – something they’re very proud of. To help them continue this vital service, they run a scheme called Disability Confident on behalf of the Department of Work and Pensions.

What’s Disability Confident?
It’s designed to encourage employers to think differently about disability, and improve the way they recruit, retain and develop disabled people. It offers organisations a unique opportunity to lead the way in this area in their communities – and uncover the talent that disabled people can bring to the workplace.

So far, the scheme’s helped 11 million employees across the UK. 19,040 employers have signed up, 184 of which are in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. If you’re thinking about joining them, this webinar’s for you.

What will happen on the day?
Fleur Patten, Employment and Wellbeing Advisor at Papworth Trust, will share lots of practical advice and information on ways employers can improve access to their workplaces for disabled people.

She’ll also talk about the Disability Confident scheme in detail, and how Papworth Trust can help organisations work through its three levels to become Disability Confident Leaders. This is something the Trust themselves have already achieved – so they have hands-on experience of what it takes to complete the programme.

Alongside Fleur will be Michelle Harrison. She’s Director of People and Culture at Orwell Housing Association which became an accredited Disability Confident employer in June 2018. They signed up to the scheme to show their support for equality, diversity and inclusion, as well as their commitment to fair treatment and equal access to their services, information and employment. Michelle will be telling us how the scheme has helped them improve their approach to recruitment, and to retaining talented people.
