Inspired by Uncomfortable Cambridge's Hidden Histories tour, this lecture delves into the untold stories of women in Cambridge, critically examining how we narrate their history. Building on the tour’s exploration of women’s urban, academic, and family lives, the construction of gendered identities, and queer experiences, this talk addresses key questions: What gaps exist in the historical record, and how can we amplify silenced voices?
Through case studies of pioneering women scholars, entrepreneurs, and business leaders—alongside everyday lives and communities—we’ll explore their struggles, achievements, and the ways historical narratives have excluded or misrepresented them.
Join us to discuss strategies for creating a more comprehensive narrative of Cambridge’s past.
