The Opportunity;

To be part of a growing team of engineers and scientists who design novel process systems for carbon capture and hydrogen storage. A range of industries and customers urgently require these decarbonisation solutions.

At Immaterial, we want to deploy novel and commercially compelling systems in these markets. To achieve this, we are currently hiring a Mechanical Engineer at Senior or Lead level, with an understanding of process technology, and an aptitude for innovation.

We are looking for a forward-thinking and results-driven Innovative Mechanical Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will develop and implement groundbreaking mechanical solutions to deliver product performance, reliability, and manufacturability. You will lead and take part in projects that involve designing, prototyping, and testing mechanical systems, leveraging cutting-edge process technology and advanced materials.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

•Develop innovative mechanical systems and components, focusing on performance, durability, and manufacturability for the delivery of Immaterial’s unique MOFs into systems for carbon capture.

•Manage development activities with third party technology providers, agencies, suppliers and manufacturers to deliver these developments in collaboration with internal technology teams.

•Conduct feasibility studies and simulations to assess design viability and performance under real-world conditions.

•Prototype mechanical systems and components, performing rigorous testing to validate performance and reliability.

•Identify opportunities to leverage cost-effective manufacturing techniques into existing and new product designs.

•Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including chemists, material scientists, and process engineers.

•Present innovative concepts and technical solutions to internal stakeholders and clients.

KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCES

•Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. A higher qualification may be valuable.

•Proven experience in mechanical design and innovation within a technical or manufacturing environment. Proficiency in CAD software (such as SolidWorks) and simulation tools (like ANSYS or Comsol).

•Experience of process technology and equipment, such as vessels, heat exchangers, electrolysers, or reactors, especially of design and development of novel systems.

•Experience with prototyping and hands-on mechanical testing. Strong problem-solving skills and a creative engineering mindset.

•Knowledge of advanced materials and modern manufacturing techniques. Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail. Effective communication and collaboration abilities. Project management experience is a plus.

DESIRABLE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

•Knowledge and experience of pressure and temperature swing adsorption, or of carbon capture systems would be particularly interesting.

Experience of coatings, or an understanding of metallurgy would be advantageous.
