Context
Launched in November 2021, the Global Initiative for Future Industrial Safety is a partnership between UNIDO and the Lloyd’s Register Foundation, addressing the urgent need to improve worker safety.

Emerging technologies create both risks and opportunities in industrial safety. While they may expose workers to new hazards, they also offer innovative solutions to enhance workplace safety as they become more accessible worldwide.

The Initiative helps the global manufacturing sector navigate these challenges by establishing universal safety principles, promoting advanced safety technologies, and developing resources to improve safety capabilities. Key objectives include:

  • Addressing safety risks from emerging technologies like AI, IoT, and robotics;
  • Bridging knowledge gaps in safety awareness;
  • Enhancing transparency in industrial safety;
  • Providing insights for business leaders and policymakers;
  • Ensuring safe adoption of new technologies.

Supported by Cambridge Industrial Innovation Policy, the Initiative is driving progress in industrial safety worldwide.
