Salary - £50K circa depending on skills and experience + Company Vehicle + Overtime

Operational Technology (OT) refers to the set of digital assets which are at the very heart of Anglian Waters industrial operations. Operational technology systems are deployed throughout our geographical region to enable remote monitoring and control of water collection, treatment and distribution processes. The demand for Operational Technology solutions within the Water sector is soaring due to the opportunities associated with IT / OT integration and Industry 4.0 applications. It is recognised that OT is key in enabling us to achieve our performance commitments (including reduction in leakage and pollutions) and providing an excellent service to our customers.
To maintain and enhance our telemetry service, we are looking for a new OT Field Engineer to join the team to be based predominately in the East Norfolk area. Ideally, you’d be based in Norwich with travel across the region.
What will you be doing?
As a Senior OT Field Engineer you will be required to maintain, repair, configure and commission OT hardware, systems/networks needed to monitor and control operational plant/process on Water and Water Recycling sites. The role holder will be expected to have in-depth technical knowledge and understanding of OT Telemetry Outstations/Automation hardware/software/protocols, SCADA and industrial communication/control networks (IP & legacy) used within the water sector.
Key responsibilities:
To undertake fault diagnosing, cause and resolution (repair/replacement) of Operational Technology (OT) field equipment, networks and systems on Water and Water Recycling operational sites, to include but not limited to the following;
Telemetry Outstations, associated input/output components and power supplies
WAN communication (Radio/ADSL/Mobile/IoT)
LAN communications (Radio/Mobile/ADSL/Fibre/Ethernet)
Programmable Logic Control (PLC) Hardware (Rockwell & Schneider)
Programmable Logic Control (PLC) Software e.g. Ladder Logic, Function-Block and Structured text
Human Machine Interface (HMI)
Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and networks
Field /Control Networks - DeviceNet, Ethernet, Profibus, DH+, DH45, RS232, RS485
SCADA hardware and software
Routers, Switches, and modems
IOT and Edge devices
Security appliances e.g. Firewalls
Undertake preventive maintenance activities of OT field equipment, networks and systems on Water and Water Recycling operational sites to include but not limited to the following;
• Battery replacement (Outstation & PLC)
• UPS maintenance (OT hardware only)
• UHF scanner calibrations
• PLC software configuration programme backups
• HMI software configuration programme backups
• SCADA software system backups
• Outstation firmware upgrades
• Routers, Switches firmware upgrades
Provide 24x7x365 standby cover within own work region and or cross boundary as required.
Undertake software modifications to existing process automation and control system/networks to maintain regulatory compliance and or, mitigate the impact of short term asset failures.
Support Water & Water Recycling operations with software modifications to existing automation and control systems needed to support planned maintenance activities
Act as a first line technical point of escalation for queries from OT Field engineers.
Provide technical support to other operational teams across water and Water recycling in the diagnosis of instrumentation, and control issues to mitigate non-compliance and process continuity risks.
Comply with company Health and Safety, electrical safety polices and standards.
What do you need?
The role holder will be expected to have a good technical knowledge and understanding of OT Telemetry Outstations/Automation hardware/software/protocols, SCADA and industrial communication/control networks (IP & legacy) used within the water industry.
Ideally be educated to HNC/HND (or equivalent) level or have time served experience in maintenance, commissioning or field service of electrical, instrumentation or telecommunications systems with a City and Guilds /NVQ level 3 electrical qualification.
Experience or formal training in programming and fault finding on Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) or process control equipment is essential.
