The Cambridge is hosting two open days this week for prospective tenants of the two semi-detached homes in Woolpit, near Bury St Edmunds. Prospective tenants will be able to have a look around and talk to a mortgage adviser from The Cambridge about the innovative scheme.
The Rent to Home initiative, launched in 2019, helps first-time buyers build up a deposit to buy a property. Ballot winners will rent the Woolpit properties from The Cambridge for up to three years and have up to 70% of their rent returned to them to use as a deposit towards their own home.
Carole Charter, Chief Commercial Officer at The Cambridge said:
“Our open days are a fantastic opportunity for prospective tenants to explore the properties and see what their home could be for the next three years. We’ll also be on hand to answer any questions from first-time buyers.”
“We’re excited to help our next tenants take their first step onto the housing ladder and achieve homeownership. As a community-driven organisation, we know that without our support, many local people would struggle to secure a home of their own.
“Saving for a deposit isn’t easy, which is why we’re committed to making homeownership more accessible for those ready and eager to take that first step.”
Open day details:
Thursday 20th February 2025 – 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Saturday 22nd February 2025 – 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
Location: 2/4 Melvin Way, Woolpit, IP30 9YX
Caroline, who is a Rent to Home tenant in The Cambridge’ Ely property, said:
“Like most people stuck in the rental cycle, we had come to terms with the fact that homeownership was probably out of reach for us. We’re thrilled this will be our last rental property, and having a landlord like The Cambridge is an absolute pleasure.
“Their thoughtful touches to make us feel welcome have been lovely, and everyone we’ve met at the society genuinely cares and is excited to be on this journey with us. This initiative has been life-changing for us and Rent to Home has restored my faith in humanity.”
For those interested in viewing the properties outside of the open days, appointments can be arranged through estate agents William H Brown by calling 01284 658 157.
