Staff from inkjet technology specialist Xaar, walked on fire, ran the Cambridge Half Marathon, completed the One Million Step Challenge, hosted Christmas fundraising events and even jumped out of a plane to collect cash for Break – a charity working across East Anglia supporting young people from care.

Xaar Group’s UK employees – based in Cambridge, Huntington, Kettering and Hemel Hempstead, took part in the fundraising activities. To date, their efforts raised £35,772 - and with Xaar matching the amount, a total of £71,544 has been given to the charity over the last two years.

Rachel Cowdry, CEO at Break, said: “The incredible generosity and commitment of Xaar and their staff are making such a big difference in the lives of the young people we support. It will help us to continue giving care experienced young people the love, support and ambition they deserve. We are thankful for this partnership and look forward to continuing our impactful work together."

Break, which is based in East Anglia, has been Xaar’s chosen charity partner for two years as part of the Group’s Sustainability Roadmap to 2030.

The charity’s mission is to transform the lives of young people in and leaving care and a portion of the money has been allocated to Break’s Building Futures programme, which helps to build young people’s skills in construction and DIY.

John Mills, Xaar’s CEO, said: “Over the past two years, our Charity Champions and the wider team at Xaar have excelled themselves in helping support disadvantaged young children by raising such a fantastic amount for Break.

“We are delighted to continue working alongside this worthy charity this year as part of our Sustainability Roadmap and look forward to the wide range of activities taking place over the next 12 months.”

The charity relies on much-needed donations especially as figures reveal that 40 per cent of young adults leaving care in the UK face the risk of homelessness.

Members of the Xaar team now plan to do a bungee jump, walk the Three Peaks Challenge and organise a summer fun day.
