Marleigh is a flagship development proudly delivered by The Hill Group and Marshall LLP on the eastern edge of Cambridge. The newly re-named Jubilee Square sits at the very heart of this growing community and offers a wealth of amenities on the doorstep of residents and locals alike. The square will be home to Marleigh Primary Academy, Monkey Puzzle nursery, a Co-Op supermarket and The Hangar, a dedicated community hall which will become a central part of the community.
On Saturday 11th June, crowds of Marleigh residents, local neighbours and visitors attended in their masses to join in the celebrations. The newly named square was decorated with bunting, and rows of trestle tables and chairs were laid out to create the perfect setting to bring the community together to make memories and meet neighbours to mark such a joyous occasion.
Andy Hill of Hill Marshall LLP said: “We wanted to mark the celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by doing something that would be remembered by generations to come and the renaming of the square at Marleigh fitted this momentous milestone. Marleigh is a growing and thriving community and it is wonderful to see so many people coming together to acknowledge the Platinum Jubilee whilst hosting an event in the square for the first time.”
Attendees were treated to fish and chips, Indian cuisine, and ice cream, with live entertainment provided by Rio Brass Band. An array of arts and crafts activities were also enjoyed by children who created their very own Royal crowns, coloured in the Queen’s corgis, had their faces painted and were entertained by a balloon maker and bubble bike. The Jubilee selfie station was popular on the day, with attendees of all ages dressing up to create photographic mementos from the event.
Local resident close to Marleigh, Neil, commented: “My family and I have had a fantastic time here today, it’s been great to continue the Jubilee celebrations! An event like this is such a great way for the community to come together and meet other local residents and neighbours surrounded by such a lovely atmosphere - we were really impressed and it completely exceeded our expectations! Marleigh is becoming a wonderful place to live and we feel very lucky to have such a beautiful setting on our doorstep. We can’t wait for all the great things planned for local residents at the Jubilee Square, along with more fantastic community events like this!”
Jubilee Square will be the heartbeat of Marleigh and will add to the character of this neighbourhood, encouraging people to come together, share experiences and feel connected. A community hall, The Hangar Building, named in recognition of Bourn Airfield, a WWII airfield that was once on this land, will be a focal point on the square. The space covers 2319 sq ft and will be used as a central location where locals can book the space to host parties, exhibitions and/or clubs.
Opening in September 2022, the Marleigh Primary Academy is a 420 place primary school. Residents will also have the Monkey Puzzle Day Nursery available within the market square, providing care for children aged 3 months to 5 years. Representatives from both educational establishments were present at the event to speak with families looking to enrol their young children or forward plan for the future.
A Co-op supermarket is also set to open this September opposite the new primary school, making it an ideal spot to pick up groceries before or after a school pick-up. The convenience store will cover over 4,000 sq ft and have a focus on fresh, healthy products, meal ideas, vegan and plant-based products alongside everyday essentials.
