Join our pioneering Biotech, Cell and Gene team and enable cutting-edge therapies to be developed and manufactured. At TTP, the work we do for pharmaceutical companies supports the deployment of innovative hardware to accelerate therapy development, and we’re seeking an experienced Controls and Automation Engineer to help deliver our technically challenging, multi-phase, development projects.
You’ll be joining the Biotech, Cell and Gene Team, with a focus on developing bespoke hardware solutions that meet the needs of cell and gene therapy manufacture. This is a growing field of medicine that has shown incredible results in fighting cancer with the potential to impact ever larger groups of patients. Our teams of engineers, biologists and physical scientists are developing impactful solutions for our clients, that stand to revolutionize manufacturing and process automation in the field.
As the Controls and Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, installing, managing and/or maintaining equipment and software on PLC and SCADA systems. We’re truly interdisciplinary – you’ll be working closely with life scientists, software engineers, and mechanical engineers – this is an exciting opportunity to use your engineering skills across a range of disciplines.
You will be a key member of our engineering team. While you will have had experience in leading automation projects, you will be able to work flexibly according to project scope, collaborating closely with the broader electronics, software, biology, and system engineering disciplines.
This role will appeal to you if you retain a passion for “hands-on” development while, at the same time, using your experience to guide the “big picture” thinking needed to bring projects to a successful conclusion.
Requirements

- Ability to read and understand electrical schematic drawings
- Engaged with colleagues as a mentor, sharing skills and experience.
- Excellent communication skills to summarise project status and discuss critical issues/milestones with colleagues and external clients.
- An excellent academic record with a 1st or 2:1 degree in Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
It would be great if you can demonstrate your:
- Track record/working knowledge and relevant skill set such as:
-
- Experience working with PLCs in process control environments.
- Excellent knowledge of control system specification, architecture design methodologies, and familiarity with various requirements management and system modelling tools.
- Experience in developing software for communication protocols including OPC-UA, MQTT, Modbus.
- Experience with control system development tools, including SCADA configuration and deployment.
- Test-driven development techniques for verification and validation within regulated environments.
- Hands-on experience in debugging control systems on industrial platforms.
- Experience developing control systems in regulated, process-control industries.
- Experience with developing automation for the pharmaceutical industry would be an advantage, but is not a requirement.
