The School of Clinical Medicine is seeking to appoint a Custodian.
You will serve as Custodian for the School of Clinical Medicine, where you will assist in the day to day running of the faculty building.
The Clinical School Office provides central professional services to the Head of the School (Professor Patrick Maxwell, Regius Professor of Physic), the Clinical Dean, Sub-Deans, and the Academic Departments, Units and Institutes of the School.
The Secretary of the School, Dr Caroline Edmonds, is overall head of professional services. The School Office has four divisions, HR, Finance, Education and General as well as a Clinical School Computer Service.
The School office consists of over 120 staff. The School building is also home to over 600 medical students. It is also home to the Medical Library and has Lecture Theatres and Seminar rooms used by CUH Partners on site, so the building can have between 400-600 people in the building at any one time
As Custodian, you will be a key holder, entrusted with opening and securing the building, ensuring the safety and security of staff and visitors alike and to provide a custodial service and security for the School building in order to support the smooth running of the building(s).
The role holder(s) assists the Chief Custodian and Building Manager in the running of the Clinical School Building, including, covering reception, where you will be the first point of contact for both internal and external personnel. During time spent on reception, you will be responsible for room bookings using an online system, providing visitors with directions and handling other queries. You will also be responsible for the inspection of minor repairs, routine minor maintenance of plant and internal fabric, providing cover for the Library, providing basic IT cover, setting up all 21 Seminar rooms and portering services.
The Custodian will also cover for the Chief Custodian in times of absence.
Due to the School opening hours, which are from 0730hrs to 2000hrs, Monday to Friday and 0800hrs to 1700hrs on Saturday, this post involves working three different shift patterns (early, mid and late). There is also a requirement to work every fourth Saturday (after qualifying period) for which an additional payment is made.
