The Learning and Development team is expanding, and we have two opportunities for experienced Learning & Development Consultants to join our busy team, one full-time permanent position and one 0.8 FTE (fixed term until 31/08/2026).

Learning & Development (L&D) supports excellence in learning, teaching and research at the University of Cambridge by providing professional, vocational and leadership development for 13,000+ university staff in support of the University's mission and strategy.

About the role:

As a Learning and Development Consultant you will design, deliver and evaluate development activities across all staff groups, including leadership & management, professional and career development programmes, courses on the Open Programme and bespoke training for Schools and departments.

You will work in partnership with the Head of L&D, L&D consultants, the wider Learning and Development and Organisational Development teams, School and departmental representatives and HR Business Partners to identify the development needs of staff and to coordinate training activities across the University.

Responsibilities will include designing and delivering of courses, programmes and resources as well as bespoke interventions, both in-person and virtual and the creation and curation of virtual learning resources. You will lead on projects which support personal, professional and organisational development, the recently launched People Strategy and other strategic initiatives. Particular areas of focus are to support new HR Policy, EDI initiatives and leadership capability. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to operational and strategic decision making.

About you:

As the ideal candidate for this role, you will join us with:

  • An excellent understanding of leadership development, change and talent management;
  • Experience in all stages of the training/development cycle, identification of needs, design and delivery of training, and evaluation and assessment;
  • Digital literacy and experience using digital learning tools/e-learning platforms, HR Systems;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills;
  • Strong negotiating, influencing and team working skills.
