The Willis lab at the MRC Toxicology Unit is looking to appoint a Research Associate to contribute to its programme on post-transcriptional control following toxic injury. This fixed term position will focus upon understanding the ribotoxic stress response following UVB exposure.
Your role will be to support the research activities of the group and conduct your own research projects within the remit of the research programme.
You will need to hold, or be close to completing, a PhD in an appropriate area, together with proven experimental skills including:
- Cross-linking and immunoprecipitation/ affinity purification
- RNA-interactome capture assays and organic orthogonal phase separation for RBP identification
- Sucrose-density gradient centrifugation, polysome profiling and micrococcal nuclease-digestion collided ribosome profiling
- Molecular biology techniques including cloning, PCR, RT-qPCR, SDS-PAGE, immunoblotting
- Human cell culture of adherent and suspension cell lines
- Competence with bioinformatics software including BLAST, Galaxy, ChimeraX, HDX-MS analysis software, image segmentation software and multiple DNA/RNA sequencing analysis software
- Standard and custom cross-linking immunoprecipitation RNA sequencing and co-immunoprecipitation mass spectrometry analysis
You will be able to work both independently and as part of a team, have excellent communication and organisational skills with full commitment to the publication of data.

Appointment to Research Associate is dependent on having a PhD. Where a PhD has yet to be awarded or submitted, appointment will initially be made as a Research Assistant and amended to Research Associate when the PhD is awarded.
