Duration: 2 Years

Hours: Monday - Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, with one day per week dedicated to studies and coursework (37 hours 30 minutes per week)

Training Course: Laboratory Technician (Level 3)

Are you passionate about Science and Technology? Join the University of Cambridge as a Research Laboratory Apprentice and play a vital role in supporting our technical and scientific teams. As part of this apprenticeship, you will receive hands-on training while contributing to the ongoing research, teaching, and health and safety compliance within the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain a range of scientific equipment such as X-ray systems, Pulsed Laser Deposition, and Scanning Electron Microscopy.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic issues with laboratory systems.
  • Modify and adapt equipment for specific uses under guidance.
  • Deposit materials and collect experimental data following documented processes.
  • Introduce new users to the operation of laboratory systems and equipment.

What You'll Gain:

  • Fully funded apprenticeship qualification - Level 3 Laboratory Technician.
  • On-the-job training and theoretical knowledge through BTEC Level 3 Applied Science or Level 4 HNC.
  • Professional development, including the opportunity to apply for professional registration as a Registered Science Technician (RSciTech) with the Royal Society of Chemistry or Royal Society of Biology upon successful completion.

Requirements:

  • Essential Qualifications: GCSE in Maths, English, and Science (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent.
  • Desirable Skills: Strong communication, IT, and organisational skills; attention to detail; ability to work well in a team.
  • Other Requirements: A keen interest in Science and Technology.

Training Details:

  • College/Training Provider: CSR Scientific Training Limited.
  • Delivery: Primarily online learning, with face-to-face sessions/exams in Sutton Coldfield/Birmingham City Centre (travel and accommodation expenses covered).
