Employment Law Essentials for Managers

View booking options

Outline

Managers on the front line have to make immediate decisions on how to deal with situations and can be involved in matters which become protracted, such as managing sickness absence or a complex disciplinary investigation. It is therefore vital that managers have a level of understanding of what is expected of them as representatives of the organisation so as to protect it, themselves and manage employees effectively.

This training is provided by an experienced employment lawyer who will provide their knowledge and “war stories” from a career dealing with these issues in practice.

Objectives

By the end of the training course, you will:

  • Understand how an employment contract works and how carefully worded contracts and policies can mitigate employment law risks
  • Develop your understanding of the Equality Act and be able to better identify acceptable and unacceptable workplace behaviour
  • Understand the processes which must be followed when dealing with concerns over your teams’ conduct or capability
  • Understand what is meant by a fair dismissal and how you can ensure that decisions you make are considered reasonable by courts and tribunals

When I looked at the agenda I prepared myself for a very dry day! As I reflected, I realised that I had learned new things and I had actually enjoyed it, which had to be a first for employment law! The team were very approachable and I left the training feeling that we are now in safe hands as long as we do our bit well. That was previously a pressure, but I am confident that the steps and the guidance are now going to be very clear
