2014 is record year for Conference Cambridge

Cambridge is proving more popular than ever as a destination for holding conferences and events, according to the latest figures released by Conference Cambridge. They break all previous records in its 16-year history.

The official, free venue-finding service for Cambridge University and its Colleges as well as hotels and other unique properties in the city, reports a 20% increase in the volume of enquiries during 2014.

A total of 3302 enquiries were taken worth £25m, compared to 2744 in 2013.

Of these, 1040 bookings were confirmed worth £4.8 million, versus 931 bookings worth £4.4 million in 2013. This means that out of the total number of enquiries, 32% have completed and a further £570,000 of revenue is still provisionally booked.

The client sector breakdown of the enquiries for the year was: 62% from academics and corporates, 8% from individuals, 7% from associations and 3% from charities.

Kelly Vickers, Managing Director of Conference Cambridge said: “2014 was definitely our busiest year to date and we are delighted with these latest figures which break all records for us. This underlines Cambridge’s appeal as a location for events of all types including larger scale gatherings which can benefit from using multiple venues.

“Cambridge offers a unique experience, with venues ranging from historic oak-panelled rooms through to stunning contemporary settings so there’s something to suit every type of event. There are also amazing opportunities for social activities such as punting on the River Cam, enjoying a walking tour around the Colleges or taking in one of our member Museums at a private drinks reception.”

With over 50 different venues in its prestigious portfolio, Conference Cambridge provides a ‘one stop shop’, finding suitability and availability for individual requirements with a single enquiry, without event organisers having to contact each property separately.
