Abcodia appoints Dr Claire Hooper to its board of directors

Abcodia, a biomarker validation company with a focus on cancer screening, has appointed Dr Claire Hooper as a non-executive director of the board.

As a founder and Director of Cambridge Imaging Ltd, and a senior director in R&D at PerkinElmer Inc, a leading American-based technology company, after its acquisition of the company, Dr Hooper has an in-depth experience in high technology for the life sciences and diagnostics markets and also brings a vast amount of experience in small entrepreneurial start-ups.

In 2011, Abcodia acquired the exclusive commercial rights to the UKCTOCS serum biobank (created by lead clinical scientists at University College London) and has since successfully secured a range of collaborations that are using the serum to identify and validate novel screening biomarkers for cancer.

Dr Julie Barnes, Abcodia’s CEO, said: “I am delighted that Claire is joining the board of Abcodia. Her experience and reputation in the industry, and the valuable insights she brings will be hugely beneficial to Abcodia as we continue to develop our foothold in the cancer screening market.”

Dr Claire Hooper said: “This is an important stage in Abcodia’s growth.  The company has a strong leadership team that brings together industry experience with a strong understanding of the science of biomarkers and the opportunity for cancer screening. I look forward to contributing to their business plan, helping them forge effective collaborations with partners in the diagnostics industry and thus supporting a successful business that has much to offer in improving the way we diagnose this life-threatening disease.”
