Headway UK have announced that the central theme and content for ABI Week will focus on increasing awareness of the plight of individuals affected by brain injury whose access to vital support services is being reduced as a result of funding cuts and welfare reforms.
These cuts are hampering people’s ability to lead independent lives and are increasing the likelihood of them requiring additional state support in the future.
So, the theme is “Don’t cut me out!” Headway UK’s campaigning aims to help Headway groups and branches raise awareness of the urgent need for funding in order to ensure they can continue to provide vital services.
Headway branches and groups across the country are contributing to a survey about this. Headway UK have also published a survey asking clients if funding cuts are having an impact on their lives. If you are a client who has been affected by this issue, please do contribute to the survey. It is a really important opportunity to give evidence for Headway UK to take to the Government in their campaign. To join in the survey, click here. The surveys need to be completed by 31 March.
Headway Cambridgeshire has already been campaigning on this issue since last year, and has been in communication with Cllr Kilian Bourke, the Chairman of the Adults Wellbeing and Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee, who asked for our contribution to a discussion the Committee is to have on ABI and supported housing.
Hats for Headway Day
This annual event will take place on Friday 16 May 2014. It is a fun and easy way to raise awareness of brain injury as well as raising funds to help the Headway Cambridgeshire charity. So get ready to wear your hats for Headway.
