Adder has moved its worldwide corporate headquarters, sales and marketing and R&D from Technology House to units three, five and six of Bar Hill Business Park. Units one and two were already being used by Adder for manufacturing and warehousing.
The new offices were officially opened by Professor Sir Mike Gregory CBE, head of the Manufacturing and Management Division of Cambridge University Engineering Department and of the Institute for Manufacturing.
Adder has spent five months renovating the units to create an office space that enables effective communications throughout the company, with breakout and small- to medium- sized meeting areas designed to promote collaborative working.
“The new offices will create a more pleasant working environment, with more light and space,” says Adrian Dickens founder and CEO of Adder Technology. “We wanted to relocate within Cambridge as it allows us to attract the best engineers in the world for research and development, which is a key part of our business, driving our growth.”
A manufacturing success story, Adder makes all its products in the UK and exports 75% of them throughout the world, operating offices that cover the US, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific.
For the 12 months to 30 June 2011, Adder sales grew 18%, with 28% growth expected for its current financial year. So far, Adder is well on the way to meeting this ambitious target, having already seen a 33.5% rise in sales compared to the same period in 2010.
To help drive this momentum, Adder is putting more investment into R&D, ensuring that the main hub of the new office is the technical lab, which is four times the size of its previous one at Technology House. Adder is also looking to employ an additional six engineers.
“Adder has been able to buck the trend in this day and age of economic uncertainty,” says Dickens. “We are an archetypal UK manufacturing success story, built on a classic business model – privately owned, run by technical enthusiasts, exporting all over the world.”
“The fastest growing part of our business is south east Asia and China, followed by the USA,” says Simon Clew, sales director. “We are looking to grow our operations in the US, Eastern Europe and Asia Pacific. We are going to expand the Boston office in the US, a market where we have seen 40% growth this year.”
The next phase of the relocation project is to reorganise and expand the manufacturing and warehousing departments in 2012 to create a more efficient workflow.
