Adiabatic Logic delivers on second development contract with Xaar

Adiabatic Logic Limited has successfully completed a second key mixed signal ASIC development contract with the world's leading independent inkjet technology company, Xaar to enhance the performance of its printheads.

Adiabatic Logic, a leading developer of adiabatic energy recycling techniques for electronic systems, was contracted to optimise the performance of Xaar's state of-the-art piezoelectric inkjet printheads, by providing a range of advanced piezo-driver silicon devices.

"Adiabatic Logic has brought novel ideas to the problem of driving piezoelectric printheads," said Ramon Borrell, Research and Development Director at Xaar. "With its background in designing power efficient analogue devices, it was the outstanding choice of partner for Xaar to work with, developing new silicon for printheads."

The new driver devices, which are being manufactured on a specialised high voltage CMOS process, have performed extremely well with Xaar's advanced printhead architecture, according to the company. The first parts are already being used in production, whilst other variants are being prepared to enter production.

"We are proud to have worked with an innovative market-leader such as Xaar to overcome some of the challenges faced by the company as it drives the expansion of inkjet printing into targeted industry sectors," said Geoff Harvey, Chief Technology Officer of Adiabatic Logic. "Efficiently managing power in any electronic system remains a top priority for chip and integrated circuit (IC) developers as well as electronic product manufacturers."

Adiabatic Logic offers design services and IP products that encompass all aspects of energy recycling and which help reduce the power used by electronics systems. Adiabatic Logic works with customers to help develop everything from small logic blocks through to semiconductors, boards and full systems. Its expertise includes analogue/mixed signal, high voltage and digital circuit (ASIC/VHDL) design.
