Alimentum restaurant in Cambridge has hosted a preview lunch for Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust’s (ACT’s) 10th annual Pink Rose Appeal for breast cancer care. The event, held on Monday 3 June at the 1-Michelin starred restaurant, gave supporters of the appeal the opportunity to find out more about the new fundraising activities that are being launched in 2013.

The Pink Rose Appeal has raised over £450,000 so far for breast cancer research and treatment at Addenbrooke’s, by inviting members of the community to host parties and ask their guests to ‘pay for their supper’ in and around October – breast cancer awareness month.

This year the appeal is expanding to provide members of the community who can’t hold parties, the opportunity to get involved. Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT) is introducing exclusive Mayer Pink Rose Jewellery made with fresh water pearls and rose quartz, ‘Boob Tube’ collection boxes to appeal to younger fundraisers and a bespoke Pink Rose rose bush being cultivated by award-winning Harkness Roses.

Guests at the preview event included Professor Carlos Caldas, Director of the Cambridge Breast Cancer Research Unit, who spoke about the benefits the Pink Rose Appeal provides for breast cancer patients at Addenbrooke’s and around the country, Pink Rose jewellery designer, Julieta Mayer and former breast cancer patient, Cathie Sales, who is sharing her story to be the face of this year’s appeal.

The lunch included a wonderful six-course meal designed by Alimentum head chef, Mark Poynton, which featured English asparagus, roasted halibut and lemon curd parfait with fennel ice cream.

Head of community fundraising at ACT, Michelle Gray, said: “We’re thrilled that Alimentum kindly hosted this event for the Pink Rose Appeal. The appeal helps make a difference for hundreds of women and men who suffer from breast cancer. We’re so grateful to all our supporters and we hope many more people will take part this year by taking advantage of our new fundraising opportunities.”
