Organised by Conference Cambridge and held at Christ’s College, the evening presentation and dinner was a ‘thank you’ to Cambridge Ambassadors who, in bringing events and business to the City, are playing a major role in flying the Cambridge flag.
Not only does this give visiting delegates the chance to enjoy the unique Cambridge Experience but also delivers economic benefit, both in terms of fuelling the local economy and local employment.
Endorsing the value of Conference Cambridge’s ‘Ambassador Programme’, Professor Nigel Slater Pro-Vice Chancellor of Enterprise and Regional Affairs, University of Cambridge said: “Cambridge is ranked as one of the top three universities in the world and we need to maintain that position by taking every opportunity to show who we are and what we do. Conference Cambridge’s Ambassador Programme has a key role to play in this and is already proving a success.”
Dame Fiona Reynolds, Master of Emmanuel College and former Director General of the National Trust spoke about her own experience in bidding for and hosting the 16th International Conference of National Trusts in September 2015 which involved 250 delegates from 41 countries. She said: “It was a great privilege to give our conference visitors who are passionate about conservation, the experience of seeing our wonderful architecture here including attending a reception at King’s College. We had excellent feedback and the INTO team was extremely grateful to the help received from Conference Cambridge.”
Dr Julian Allwood, Professor of Engineering and the Environment, Department of Engineering spoke about his current planning for the five-day International Conference of Technology of Plasticity 2017 which will bring 600 delegates from more than 30 countries to Cambridge. “As someone who has never organised such a large event before, the help from Conference Cambridge’s Ambassador Programme has been invaluable,” he said. “Dealing with huge contracts for goods and services is a minefield and I am hugely grateful for all the help the organising team has received.”
Guests were welcomed by Jennifer Brook, Bursar of Churchill College and Managing Bursar of Conference Cambridge who thanked the Ambassadors for their assistance and looked forward to further collaboration in the future.
Conference Cambridge is the official free venue-finding service for Cambridge University and its Colleges, as well as hotels and other unique properties in the city and offers a programme of free support to anyone interested in making a bid to bring a conference to Cambridge.
