The annual Christmas Tree Recycling Scheme in Cambridge run by Arthur Rank Hospice Charity is once again operating in January 2025.

For a donation to help fund hospice care across Cambridgeshire, your tree can be picked up from your front door, thanks to the incredible support from volunteers.

In January 2024, some 3500 trees were collected, and over £60,000 raised, and in January 2025 the Charity is aiming to grow the scheme by 1000 trees, to support more people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end of life care.

To take part in the scheme, simply register your tree for collection arhc.org.uk/tree-recycling   and make a donation by 5 January. Collection is available in postcode areas of CB1, CB2, CB3, CB4, CB5, CB21, CB22, CB23, CB24, CB25, SG8 and SG19 3. This hassle-free service not only saves you the trouble of dealing with pine needles in your car but also supports a great cause. By participating in this scheme, you are directly contributing to the care and support provided by Arthur Rank Hospice Charity.

Trees will be collected across three days, starting on Thursday 9 January by a huge team of fantastic volunteers who have pledged their time to help. Many are giving up a days work to come out and help, renting vans or borrowing them. Their commitment and community spirit is truly inspiring. Businesses sending teams and donating vans to help on the day include HSBC, Barclays, The Welch Group, QAV Global, Enterprise, Alleycat, Springboard, Cooke Curtis & co, Pink Lamp, The Murphy Group, Kier, Huttie Group, Simpsons Nursery and CRL together with organisations like The Rotary Club of Cambridge and RAF Marham.

In addition to sending volunteers on the day, the 2025 collection is sponsored by Cooke Curtis & co, award winning estate and letting agents in Cambridge. Jamie Curtis, Director said:

“We are delighted to support Arthur Rank Hospice Charity for the fifth consecutive year and to witness the scheme’s growth alongside increasing donations. This incredible initiative raises vital funds for the Charity, which does outstanding work providing compassionate end-of-life care to patients”.

Following all the trees being collected, a team of volunteer chippers then take over, to chip the trees for recycling. They give up their time on the day and bring along all the equipment necessary to chip the trees and recycle the chippings. Local companies involved include Brookfields Contracting, ACS Tree Care, Acacia Tree Surgery and Covill Skips.

Arthur Rank Hospice Charity would also like to thank Abington SawMill, Scotsdales Garden Centre, Cambridge Rugby Club, Morrisons, Rectory Farm and Shepreth Wildlife Park who provide space for the volunteers to drop off the trees.

Gina Thomas, Events and Challenges Manger at Arthur Rank Hospice Charity said:

“This is one of our most significant fundraisers, and we’ve set our highest target for 2025. The incredible support from the community to achieve this is truly amazing. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has given their time, donated vans, provided lunches, and helped promote this initiative.

We’d love to collect your tree, please book it in before 5 January and we’ll be round to collect it! Your contributions will greatly enhance the care we can offer to our patients throughout Cambridgeshire, thank you.”
