Arabella Marsh-Hilfiker, who is from Hemel Hempstead and studying in Cambridge, is hoping to secure a place at an international residency for emerging artists in Venice, after becoming the first recipient of the Mark Wood Art and Design Scholarship.
The scholarship, which will be awarded annually to a Masters student at Anglia Ruskin’s Cambridge School of Art, goes to the individual with the highest marks in their undergraduate degree.
Arabella, who is 24 and studying part-time for the MA in Illustration and Book Arts, said: “I’m very grateful to be receiving this award, which is a huge encouragement.
“I’m really excited about the possibility of using the scholarship to attend an international residency specifically for emerging artists. The residency is in Venice and with the money I can afford a four-week stay there with access to the studios and technicians’ help.
“It is something I have to apply for, but if I get accepted it would mean I could complete the project I have been working on this semester as well as learning a whole bunch more and making some great contacts.”

He said: “I’m delighted that the first year’s award of this Scholarship is making it possible for such a talented student to enhance their studies in this exciting way.
“It was a pleasure to meet Arabella and to hear about her plans to use this award to attend the artists’ residency in Venice. I wish her every success with that, and with the final year of her studies.”
