Lord Green of Hurstpierpoint, the President of the Institute of Export & International Trade, has visited ARU Peterborough to learn more about the city’s new university and discuss potential collaborations between the two institutions.
Based in Peterborough, the Institute of Export & International Trade was established in 1935 and is a professional membership body that provides advice and training for those involved in importing and exporting goods and services.
Lord Green, a former Chairman of HSBC and Government Minister for Trade and Investment, was joined on the visit by the Institute of Export & International Trade’s Chief Operating Officer Kelly Rawles, who was born in Peterborough and also grew up in the city.
ARU Peterborough and the Institute of Export & International Trade discussed co-creating courses that could support business and supply chain training and development needs, as well as upskilling in key areas such as sustainability.
Lord Green, the President of the Institute of Export & International Trade, said: “ARU Peterborough will have a transformative impact in the community in the coming years. Like the Institute, it creates opportunities for young people, expanding horizons and equipping them with the skills necessary to change their world for good. There is so much we can do together to realise this bold ambition.”
Professor Ross Renton, Principal of ARU Peterborough, said: “We are fortunate to have the Institute of Export & International Trade based right here in Peterborough and it was a privilege to welcome Lord Green and Kelly Rawles to ARU Peterborough and show them our fabulous new facilities.
“ARU Peterborough already offers an exciting range of business courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, which will provide a pipeline of talented graduates for companies across the region, as well as courses for business owners, such as Help to Grow and the Small and Mighty Enterprise Programme.
“We know that in recent years the Institute has been busier than ever, with companies looking for additional support, advice, and training to help them navigate the UK’s new trading arrangements. Therefore, we are exploring the possibility of running joint courses with the Institute, such as specialist short courses, to provide additional support for their members.”
Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Dr Nik Johnson, said: “Last month I visited the Institute of Export & International Trade to open their contact centre creating new jobs for the city. One of the core reasons we have established ARU Peterborough is to help provide employers with the talent and skills they need to thrive. It is great to see discussions already taking place with the Institute to explore opportunities for courses and training that could support the Institute and the growth of our important exporting businesses.”
ARU Peterborough is a partnership between Anglia Ruskin University, Peterborough City Council and the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority.
ARU Peterborough offers postgraduate courses in International Business Management and Supply Chain Management, both available with a £4,000 fee discount through the ARU Peterborough Postgraduate Scholarship scheme.
