Birketts advises East Anglian freight giant in £1m boost to region’s economy

Birketts has advised Norfolk-based Freightforce Distribution Limited (Freightforce) on its purchase of a new million-pound site in Great Yarmouth, bringing with it more business and jobs to the East of England.

Melissa Loucas, Partner and Head of Norwich’s Commercial Property Team led the Birketts team, with support from Partner and Head of Corporate Tax, Karl Pocock, Senior Associate Andrew Ridout (Commercial Property), Associate Rebecca Bond (Commercial Property), Senior Associate Steven Bell (Planning) and Solicitor Ben Clarke (Corporate Tax).

The new site, located on the North River Road Industrial Estate on the site of the former Great Yarmouth Eurocentre caravan facility, expands Freightforce’s footprint in the region. Demand for Freightforce’s services have rapidly increased in the last few years for storage as customers look for a complete logistics service, even in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and Brexit. The purchase will also strengthen the business's own national distribution network and create space to expand the Palletforce network. The company is at the forefront of flexible transport services regionally by road and rail, with a fleet of trucks and trailers capable of all kinds of haulage, with drivers trained in the specific movement of hazardous and approved dangerous goods (ADRs).

Commenting on the purchase, Partner Melissa Loucas said: “Freightforce’s expansion in Great Yarmouth is testament to the quality of their business and the strength of our region’s freight economy. Businesses across our region and nationwide use our Commercial Property Team for their real estate acquisitions; in turn, our lawyers work with colleagues across the firm to ensure every aspect of a major transaction such as this is handled smoothly. We wish Nick, Martin and Freightforce every success for the future at their new site as they continue their expansion.”

Freightforce Directors Nick Jolley and Martin Halliday (pictured) added: “Melissa and the team at Birketts provided a first-class service from beginning to end of this transaction. The Great Yarmouth facility represents a fantastic opportunity for our business to flourish in 2021 and beyond. We’re excited to begin work at a new site and make it clear that both Freightforce and the East of England are open for business.”
