The transaction was led by Partner in Birketts’ Corporate and Commercial Team, Nigel Thompson.
Peter Freedman, Chairman and Founder of the Freedman Electronics Group (owner of brands including RØDE Microphones and Soundfield), has invested in the 1945 Supermarine Spitfire LF Mk. XVIe, (TE184) which is housed at the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar. The aircraft was built at Castle Bromwich, Staffordshire, before being stored in Shropshire from 30 May 1945. Changing hands several times and carefully maintained over the last 75 years, the plane is now one of fewer than 40 wartime airworthy Spitfires remaining in the UK.
Speaking after the purchase, Nigel Thompson said: “I’m delighted to help Peter with the purchase of this incredible piece of wartime history. The importance of these planes and the work of thousands of RAF pilots will never be overstated. It is great to see the Spitfire under the ownership of someone who will ensure it is cared for so it may be enjoyed by generations to come.
Birketts are always happy to help clients with acquisitions such as these. Many of our solicitors are ranked in Chambers and the Legal 500 rankings in 2021, so you can be assured you’ll be supported by a lawyer who takes the time to understand your exact needs and ensure your matters are handled with the upmost care.”
Peter Freedman added: “The Spitfire is a legendary aircraft and to own one is truly a privilege, let alone one ready to take to the sky. I’m grateful as always for Nigel’s work in bringing this this transaction to a swift and successful conclusion. Like all clients of Nigel and Birketts, I’m always impressed with the quality of the service and the support I receive.”
