The event last Thursday (June 27) - attended by more than 30 members - considered CSR and the benefits of CSR to companies. Speakers included Kirsten Corrigan of Method Creative; James Hanaway of Camara Education; and Alexis Willett of Punch Consulting, who has written a blog about the experience.
Alexis says: "I’m hopeful that many of those attending the event on CSR will have gone away with ideas and new connections that will help them start, or build upon, interesting and effective CSR commitments in their organisations. Cambridge could well become a vibrant hotbed of community partnerships, philanthropy and satisfied staff in the near future."

COURSE 'TASTER SESSION'
The next Breakfast meeting, which takes place on Thursday July 25th, is experimental. It will include, for the first time, a 'taster session' of a course run regularly by Cambridge Network's Learning Collaboration (LC). As well as having the usual chance to network both before and after the session, those attending will be treated to one hour's worth of the popular LC 'Finance for non-financial managers' training course, covering topics including:
- Raising capital
- Gearing
- Cash flow management
- Burn rates
- Jargon such as fixed assets, capex/opex, working capital
- How these issues affect small businesses today

FUTURE THEMES
This series of breakfast meetings was introduced in response to a survey of smaller Cambridge Network members last year which showed that, while monthly events with high-profile speakers were popular, some members were missing the chance to network in small groups.
Members also identified that they would like to discuss specific issues they are facing in business, and events to date have focused on HR, Marketing/Sales/PR, IT, Finance, business development and corporate social responsibility.
Cambridge Network will soon be running another survey to find out other topics you'd like to see addressed, so please keep an eye on this site and participate.
In the meantime,if you would like to learn more about a particular subject from fellow Network members, or would like to speak at a future breakfast meeting, please send details of your proposed topic to andrea.mitchell@cambridgenetwork.co.uk for consideration.
