Bright Publishing announce ACT as their Charity of the Year

ACT, the independent charity for Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie hospitals, is delighted to have been chosen as Bright Publishing’s Charity of the Year for April 2012 to April 2013.

Bright have chosen ACT’s Rosie Hospital Campaign as the focus for all their fundraising, throughout the year.

ACT is dedicated to making a difference to enhance the experience of patients, their families and the staff who care for them. Since the Rosie was built in 1983 many generous individuals, corporates and groups have supported the hospital with kind gifts that have enabled it to stay at the forefront of world-class care.

Today however, demand for the service has simply outgrown its current capacity. The Rosie was built to accommodate around 3,000-3,500 babies each year; this year it is expecting around 6,000 deliveries.

To maintain its high standard of care the Rosie needs to expand. Over the coming nine months ACT and Bright are planning a final Big Push to help give birth to the new Rosie!

The team at Bright Publishing have put together an exciting year-round programme to help ACT fundraise for their Big Push target of £150,000 from the local community. They include staff cake stalls and car boot sales; challenges and sponsored activities like marathons, bike rides and quiz nights.

In addition Bright are running a series of stories in their local lifestyle magazine Cambridge Edition, focusing on different areas of the Rosie thoughout the year and the difference their fundraising will make there.

The Bright team have pledged £10,000 and with this are looking to purchase six items of equipment for the unit. You can support Bright Publishing here: www.justgiving.com/cambridge-edition

Items include:

A Phototherapy Unit: used to break down bilirubin that can sometimes build up in the blood of newborn babies because the liver cannot remove it fast enough.

An Apnoea Monitor: monitors both the respiratory and heart rate of an infant, and sounds an alarm alerting of a possible need to perform CPR.

A Neopuff: a manually operated resuscitator that proves optimal resuscitation for the baby. Neopuffs safety inflates the baby’s lungs and provides optimum oxygenation.

An Opthalmoscope: used to view the back of the eye – a good view of which can allow an assessment of the health of the eye, as well as telling a lot about the baby’s overall health.

Trudy Harper, Community Fundraising Manager at ACT said: “We are thrilled to have Bright Publishing as one of our corporate partners for this coming year, and are looking forward to working together to secure a great fundraising target for the Rosie Hospital! Bright and their staff are helping us make sure that any woman or baby from our area will be able to receive the best treatment possible in the Rosie.”
