It’s estimated that well over 1000 pensioner households in the city will not be able to afford to keep themselves warm as temperatures drop. But a simple electric over blanket costing less than £50 can target warmth onto a person at risk if their heating is low or off. Or they can save money by choosing a lower setting, as the blankets cost just 2-3p per hour to run – as little as £10 a month if used 12 hours a day.
Allia Impact has piloted the idea with a grant from Cambridge City Council working with Cambridge Housing Society so over 30 vulnerable households now have these blankets – and the early feedback is that they really make a difference. Working with experts from the NHS and AgeUK it will be possible to identify those in greatest need.
How many of the 1000+ needed can we fund together, as a business community?
We are asking Cambridge businesses to pledge support by clicking the link HERE to indicate how many blankets your business could fund.
Once we’ve reached a minimum of 100 blankets, we’ll let you know and arrange payment via a secure platform. At this stage, it’s more important to gauge the level of support local businesses are willing to pledge, rather than to spend a long time getting internal approvals, so your pledge to support this appeal will not be binding – but your response really matters.
Feel free to contact Martin Clark from Allia Impact with any queries: martin.clark@allia.org.uk or put them in the box on the response form.
