Life Science REIT, owners of Cambourne Park Science & Technology Campus (formerly Cambourne Business Park), is delighted to welcome Rakon to the Campus, in addition to launching its re-positioning of the Campus to the market.

Having acquired the site in 2021, Life Science REIT, the real estate investment trust focused on UK life science properties and its investment advisor, Ironstone Asset Management, has spent the intervening period assessing and evaluating the future trajectory of the location, including a re-branding exercise, feasibility studies for the refurbishment and re-purposing of buildings, and the development of an exciting master plan which transitions from a traditional business park towards a more science and technology focused campus.

The vision for the 50-acre Cambourne Park Science and Technology Campus is to create an exemplar development which continues to support current occupier’s activities and requirements as well as attracting additional leading science and technology businesses, such as Rakon.

Headquartered in New Zealand, Rakon, a major player in enabling positioning for agritech for over a decade has chosen to relocate its boutique chipset design hub to the Campus. Currently fitting out the space to create dry labs, Rakon are expected to be operational on site by the end of July this year.

Reza Sedehi, Head of Products, Rakon, commented: "Rakon has been designing chipsets to enable connectivity since 2008. Today, we cannot be more excited to relocate our boutique chipset design hub to the UK's silicon fen, as we set to expand our ASIC based product portfolio. Being in Cambourne will allow us to have access to the world's leading engineers, bring us closer to our customers (such as ublox and MediaTek) and provide us with a peaceful, exciting and innovative working environment."

Ian Harris, Director of Asset Management, Ironstone Asset Management added: "We are delighted to officially welcome Rakon to the Campus, in addition to unveiling the new Campus identity and our plans for the continued evolution of this superbly positioned location.

“Home to over 60 companies, employing over 1,000 people and located just 7 miles from Cambridge - which supports the largest science and technology cluster in Europe - the Campus is already part of a vibrant ecosystem. We are excited by the opportunity to further enhance that ecosystem through the provision of high quality, affordable science and tech space to satisfy the current high market demand, ensuring that innovative companies working to solve some of the world’s most challenging issues can continue to thrive here.”

Through a programme of retrofit, sustainable transformation to provide further high quality lab and tech bench space, a permanent café/lifestyle amenity, plus enhanced connectivity to Cambridge, Life Science REIT is committed to further establishing the Campus as a leading location for both science and technology in the region. Creating a space which enhances occupiers work/life balance and welcomes in the wider Cambourne community. A place everyone can enjoy.
