Cambridge CEO finds his financial future in private wealth management

Olly Phillips, former Managing Director at Cambridge firm Brown Shipley, has joined the board of KMD Private Wealth Management.

As CEO of wealth manager NW Brown, Olly oversaw the integration of the business into Brown Shipley following its sale in 2019. He left in 2022 to seek new adventures with the aim of ‘continuing to work with great people in great, growing companies’. He has since become a director at Green & Purple, which specialises in virtual CFO and finance teams and has now put his backing to KMD Private Wealth Management.

Having worked in the financial sector for over 20 years, Olly believes the profession needs to do more to demonstrate it is truly client-centric, rather than just paying lip service to it.

‘We are in a fast-evolving environment where only the very best advisers - those giving their clients real financial clarity, using tech that adds real value, all wrapped in a responsive, personal service - will survive and thrive.

‘When I met Kevin [Deamer, KMD’s founder and Managing Director], I was struck by the depth of the conversations that the advisers at KMD are having with their clients, carried out in a way that I’ve not seen before. Furthermore, on meeting the wider team, I saw a culture that is decent to its core, with great people throughout the business.

‘KMD doesn’t simply offer a forensic exploration of someone’s financial situation. They have a real understanding of clients at the higher end of the wealth scale, developed through a unique, carefully guided journey, that helps and encourages clients to explore and understand their situation. KMD combines deep adviser expertise with leading, client-friendly technology - it’s a very exciting proposition and one that clearly makes for really happy clients.

‘KMD’s unique approach is immensely valuable to HNW individuals, families and business owners. I’m delighted to be joining the board to help the business achieve its aim of being the market-leading true wealth manager in Cambridge and the Eastern Region’.

Managing Director Kevin Deamer sees Olly’s involvement as a major step in the firm’s growth plans: ‘Olly brings considerable managerial and commercial experience to our business, at a time when we are looking to recruit more advisers and widen our client footprint. Our larger Cambridge base in Hills Road is also part of that strategy.

‘I’m delighted that Olly wanted to explore where we can go with KMD’s development and look forward to a long and happy association’.
