Cambridge Index rises 2.6%

The Cambridge Index advanced 506.54 points or 2.6% to close at 20,364.5 as five out of the top ten index heavyweights posted weekly gains in their share price.

Darktrace, up 0.9%, in its trading update, announced that its annualised recurring revenue (ARR) on 30 June 2024 stood at $782.2m, representing a yearly growth of 22.7%.

Kier Group, up 3.7%, in its trading update, announced that its full-year FY24 results are anticipated to be above the prior year and in line with market expectations, reflecting a strong operational performance.

Creightons, up 43.2%, in its preliminary results for the year ended 31 March 2024, announced that revenues dropped to £53.19m from £58.57m recorded in the previous year.

CyanConnode, up 3.2%, announced significant progress in its Indian operations through its subsidiary, CyanConnode Pvt. Ltd (CPL). CPL has passed multiple Site Acceptance Tests (SATs) across several key projects and has achieved "Go Live" status in one, marking a crucial milestone that enables the commencement of billing for deployed meters.

Netcall, up 2.1%, in its trading update, announced that it delivered a strong trading performance in FY24, with results expected to be in line with market expectations.

Tristel, unchanged at 450.0p, today, in its trading update, announced that revenues for the year were up 16.4% to £41.9m (FY 2023: £36.0m), ahead of market expectations and above the company's performance target for revenue growth (an annual average of 10-15% over three years).

Xaar, down 5.1%, announced that it has introduced two new printheads, the Xaar eX and Nitrox eX, specifically designed for coating the new generation of batteries used in electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage systems.

Science Group, down 0.7%, announced that it would release its results for the period ended 30 June 2024 on 23 July 2024. Bango, down 0.3%, in its trading update, announced that its total revenue rose by 19% to $24.1m (1H23 $20.3m). Its annual recurring revenue (ARR) up by 130% to $12.9m (1H23: $5.6m) due to DVM usage growth and new customer wins.

Oracle Power, unchanged at 0.02p, announced that it has received the assay results from the recently completed Aircore (AC) drilling programme at the Northern Zone Intrusive Hosted Gold Project, in Western Australia. 27 Aircore (AC) holes drilled to blade refusal have successfully more than doubled the prospective gold system, by tagging basement geology at the Northern Zone Gold Project.

UK markets ended lower last week, as lower-than-expected Britain’s retail sales data and led by losses in commodity sector stocks. On the data front, the UK consumer price index unexpectedly remained unchanged in June, while the nation’s retail sales declined more than expected in June. Moreover, the UK ILO unemployment rate remained steady as expected in the three months to May, while the nation’s GfK consumer confidence unexpectedly fell in July. Meanwhile, the UK DCLG house price index advanced more than anticipated in May. The FTSE 100 index declined 1.2% to settle at 8,155.7, while the FTSE AIM 100 index fell 0.3% to close at 3,771.3. Additionally, the FTSE techMARK 100 index lost 2.4% to end at 6,922.3.

US markets ended mixed in the previous week. On the macro front, the US retail sales remained flat as expected in June, while the nation’s weekly jobless claims rose more than expected in the week ended 12 July 2024. Moreover, the US NY Empire State manufacturing index unexpectedly dropped in July. Meanwhile, the US building permits rose in June, while the nation’s housing starts advanced in June. Additionally, the US industrial production climbed more than expected in June, while the nation’s Philadelphia Fed manufacturing index climbed more than expected in July. Separately, the US Beige Book indicated that the US economy grew at a slight pace heading into the third quarter, with several regions noting flat or declining activity.  The DJIA index rose 0.7% to end at 40,287.5, while the NASDAQ index lost 3.6% to close at 17,726.9.
