The Cambridge raises £3,000 for Wintercomfort

Last week The Cambridge was pleased to hand over £3,000 to Wintercomfort for the homeless.

The charity team has spent the last few months organising a wide variety of events to raise funds for this exceptional local charity, which provides vital welfare services and opportunities for learning for those that are homeless or vulnerably housed. Raising funds will mean that help can be given to support these individuals to rebuild their lives.

Marketing Apprentice Abi Fuggle was the Team Leader of the group that worked closely with the charity from February to April to raise awareness and host events including a sleep out, a quiz night, a bake sale, a golf challenge competition and a cooked breakfast for the Head Office team. They also organised the funding of breakfasts to be served to those using Wintercomfort during these months.

Abi said “We really enjoyed working alongside Wintercomfort to come up with fun and creative ways to raise money and it was brilliant to see so many people from around The Cambridge get on board with the activities - especially the sleep out. It’s great to know that the money we have raised will help contribute to the life changing services that Wintercomfort provide.”

This was the first time The Cambridge had organised a charity sleep out, with even the Chief Executive Stephen Mitcham taking part. The idea behind the event was to give volunteers an insight into the challenges faced by those sleeping rough whilst raising awareness and much needed funds for those who may experience this as part of everyday life.

Fundraising and communications coordinator for Wintercomfort Simon Pickering received a cheque for £3,000 on behalf of the charity and explained how valuable the support from The Cambridge had been.

He said “We have really enjoyed working with the team at The Cambridge, their staff team have been every week supporting us serving breakfasts and getting to know our service users. We have all been really impressed with their commitment and the £3,000 raised will go a long way supporting our work.”
