The day-long conference will explore the current global supply and demand for energy and renewable technologies, and show how Cambridge’s expertise in research, development and commercialisation of energy and renewable technologies could help supply this demand. The event, to be held at the Bradfield Centre, is being organised by Cambridge Science Park in collaboration with Cambridge Cleantech.
The Cambridge Science Park, since its establishment in the 1970s, has always played a pivotal role in what is called the “Cambridge Phenomenon”, which is the transformation of Cambridge from a world class university and market town to one of the leading technology hotspots in the world. It is now looking to build on these credentials to become one of the leading centres for research in energy and renewable technologies in the world.
“Cambridge Science Park is establishing an Energy & Renewable Technologies Centre on the Park. We are delighted to be working with Cambridge Cleantech and the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership to identify companies that might be interested in moving to the centre where they could share facilities, knowledge and best practice” says Jeanette Walker, Director of Cambridge Science Park.
The keynote session will be delivered by Professor John French, Executive Director of the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, who will give an overview of global opportunities and challenges in energy and renewable technologies in the bigger picture. This will be followed by talks from Dr Anna Wise from Innovate UK and Professor David S Hall, Scientific Programme Manager at the Faraday Institution, who will delve into the latest research in battery technologies coming out of Cambridge and the UK.
The highlight of the day will be elevator pitches from some of the most innovative companies based in Cambridge working in leading-edge energy storage, novel renewable energy sources and energy management. This list includes rising cleantech and renewable energy entrepreneurs such as 8Power, Ricardo, Talga Technologies, Echoin Technologies, Zinergy, CamPower, DZP Technologies and Epicam.
