Cambridge University Museums joins Conference Cambridge portfolio

The official venue-finding service for the University of Cambridge, the Colleges and other unique properties has announced that five of Cambridge University’s Museums have joined the Conference Cambridge portfolio.

Conference Cambridge is welcoming the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, The Fitzwilliam Museum, Kettle’s Yard, Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences and the Botanic Garden – into its membership, providing the opportunity for clients to host exclusive drinks receptions amongst works of art, ancient artefacts and priceless antiques, with private, out-of-hours access.

Guests can mingle over drinks and canapés, with curators on hand to discuss and inform guests about the collections. With notice, curators can also be booked to give a private talk on a subject of interest that can either be linked to the theme of the conference, or to the interests of the group.

All the Museums are housed in historic buildings in the centre of Cambridge and a short walk from many of the Colleges where guests may go onto dinner if required.

Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (MAA) can host events for up to 350 people over its three floors. To date it has held wedding receptions, talks, seminars, singing workshops, conference receptions and corporate events.

Fitzwilliam Museum has a number of galleries for exclusive private hire, enabling up to 500 visitors to enjoy drinks and canapés amongst the museum’s priceless works and antiquities. There are also curator-led tours and private viewings of special exhibitions.

Kettle’s Yard offers the stimulating atmosphere of a contemporary art gallery and can accommodate 120 people for a reception, in addition to seating up to 120 theatre-style in the house.

Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences is the oldest of the University’s museums and can accommodate up to 270 people for receptions when staff will be on hand to share their knowledge with guests.

Botanic Garden is hometo the University’s living plant collections of over 8000 species from around the globe and provides a magical setting for large out-of-hours events such as garden parties and receptions.

Judith Sloane, Deputy Manager at Conference Cambridge said: “We are delighted to have the University Museums on board, which are perfect for drinks receptions with a difference, as well as conference welcome receptions. These unique venues provide a great ‘ice-breaking’ environment, with their historic importance adding kudos to any event.”
