CambridgeIC receives a Queen's Award for Enterprise in International Trade

CambridgeIC has won the Queen’s Award for International Trade for its outstanding growth in international sales over the past three years, which have increased by 120%. Starting with a lead customer in Germany, the company is now also selling in the US, Portugal, India, Canada, China and South Korea, with a customer list that includes blue chip brands.

CambridgeIC’s world leading resonant inductive position sensing technology is used for detecting the precise position of moving parts inside machines, and is crucial for lab automation, cash dispenser, medical robotics, valve controller and intelligent exercise machine applications. A hot market is pan/tilt surveillance cameras.

A German lead customer TURCK was the first to create products with CambridgeIC technology inside and the result – a range of industrial contactless position sensors - have set a new standard for simplicity and robustness.  TURCK’s industrial sensor modules end up in a huge range of products around the world.

The company faced a number of challenges in exporting, especially in dealing with large Blue Chip customers not used to buying from smaller suppliers. By using specialist sales management and distribution with their existing customer networks, and focusing on the US and Germany, where customers are particularly receptive to new technology, they were able to take advantage of CambridgeIC’s early success to illustrate product benefits.

David Ely, a founder and director of CambridgeIC (pictured), comments: “We are delighted and honoured to receive this prestigious award in recognition of our overseas sales success.  This has been an opportunity for us to reflect on the company’s achievements over the past nine years, and the many outstanding contributions made by our employees, partners, suppliers and customers.  However our success also has earlier roots, and we would like to acknowledge these today.  Over the course of the last two decades, we have worked with an amazing bunch of people in the Cambridge UK and Silicon Valley US areas.  Their culture of innovation, commercial insights and richly varied approaches to problem solving helped lay CambridgeIC’s foundations and continue to guide our strategy.”

Established in 2007, CambridgeIC’s founding team has a history of innovation in resonant inductive position sensing, dating back to the construction of early hand crafted prototypes in 1994.
