The Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre has been praised for ‘going above and beyond’ to meet the individual needs of patients and their families.

Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors found that staff were motivated to provide the best care possible. They:

  • treated patients with compassion and kindness
  • respected their privacy and dignity
  • took account of their individual needs
  • and helped them understand their condition.

“They provided emotional support to patients, families and carers and went above and beyond what would have been expected to meet individual needs and wishes,” the CQC said.

The CQC’s inspects adult social care services and gives a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. The Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre has been rated outstanding for being caring and responsive. This is the third consecutive occasion the top rating has been achieved.

Matron Michelle Knight said:

“We have worked very hard to retain our outstanding status. It has only been possible because of the continued commitment of my team who do indeed go above and beyond every day. We are all incredibly proud that this has been recognised by the CQC.’’

The CQC report says:

“We found that services at the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre were planned and provided care in a way that fully met the needs of local people and the communities served. Staff also worked proactively with others in the wider system and local organisations to plan care and improve services.”

The Centre, based at North Cambs Hospital in Wisbech, supports people living with a life-limiting illness by providing Living Well services, a wide range of treatments and care in patients’ homes

Services are run by the Cambridge-based Arthur Rank Hospice Charity who deliver care across the whole county and is also rated ‘outstanding’ by the CQC.
