The roundtable provided an opportunity for members to hear more about Labour’s plans to undertake the biggest reform of the energy market since privatisation and gave thethe chance to articulate their ideas and business needs to help the cleantech sector to flourish.
A lively discussion ensued, focused around the key needs of the cleantech sector including, greater stability in policy making, increased opportunities to include cleantech criteria in public procurement contracts and the need to include a cleantech dimension in large scale infrastructure schemes.
Martin Garratt, CEO of Cambridge Cleantech, comments, “We were delighted to host the Shadow Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change because so much of the Department's activities have an impact on the business of our members. Some of our leading companies were able to articulate their needs whilst impressing on the Shadow Minister the importance of the cleantech sector to UK Plc, not least in terms of high quality jobs with a positive impact on GVA growth for the country”.
