Christmas appeal supports cancer services at Addenbrooke’s

Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust’s (ACT’s) annual Christmas appeal is supporting cancer services at Addenbrooke’s, with the help of breast cancer patient, Sally Newman and her children Kaela, 8, and Ricardo, 20.

ACT is urging supporters to join them in making a difference for patients this Christmas by giving a donation to the ‘ACT on Cancer’ campaign.

‘ACT on Cancer’ aims to transform cancer services at Addenbrooke’s by ensuring that patients receive the very best services, using the latest advances in research and technology, in improved spaces which better facilitate excellence in care.

Sally has kindly shared her story of being treated for breast cancer at Addenbrooke’s to help support the appeal. Following lumpectomy surgery in February 2012, she was told she had an aggressive form of cancer and opted for chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment, which she was told had been successful just before Christmas last year.

Sally and Kaela visited Addenbrooke’s this week to see the heart-warming messages that supporters have been sending to the charity with their donations, which are displayed as gingerbread Christmas decorations on a tree at the hospital.

Sally said: “I’m so happy to support ACT’s Christmas appeal for ACT on Cancer. After all the anxiety, worry and uncertainty last year, I wanted to make Christmas really special for my children. I’m incredibly proud of the way they coped. I’ll be eternally grateful for all the care I had at Addenbrooke’s. I’m just relieved to have come out the other side and am looking forward to the future.
