As part of the new contract, three new state-of-the-art ambulances will be introduced to the service. These new vehicles will be custom built for the new contract and will include the latest technology which will help provide the highest quality care for babies and ensure the best outcomes.
The ANTS service provides specialist neonatal transport for babies across the Eastern region from as far afield as Norfolk and Suffolk. Last year the service transferred over 1200 babies to specialist neonatal units across the East of England and London including to the specialist centre at the Trust’s Rosie Hospital.
Dr Keith McNeil, chief executive at Cambridge University Hospitals, said: “We know that the continuous high quality care of seriously ill babies that we provide here is key to improving their outcomes and this starts with their transport to hospital. This new contract will help achieve this.

The new vehicles will come into service in December 2015 and during the interim St. John Ambulance will operate the transport using three demonstrator vehicles.

CUH selects St John Ambulance to provide Acute Neonatal Transfer services

Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) has chosen St John Ambulance to provide the specialist ambulances and teams to support the Acute Neonatal Transfer Service (ANTS) for the Eastern region, based at CUH.
