The award is given to urologists who have made a significant and lasting contribution to this speciality. Potential award winners must be UK Members of The British Association of Urological Surgeons and within ten years of their first consultant appointment. The purpose of the award is to recognise excellence in young urologists.
Tony spent the first eight years of his consultant career in Urology in Edinburgh where he developed a high quality renal cancer service and set up a national renal cancer tumour research banking programme with the help of a grant from the Central Scottish Office. He was also the director of Urology training for the East side of Scotland and mentored consultant colleagues in minimally invasive kidney surgery. He also introduced Green Light Laser prostatectomy in Scotland, helping introduce the service in urology units in Scotland. He returned to Cambridge University Hospitals in July 2013, bringing his expertise where he now leads the renal cancer surgical service.
Tony said: “This is a huge privilege to receive this honour from BAUS. I am extremely grateful to my colleagues for their support over the years, helping me achieve this award.”
The Award is made by BAUS Council on the recommendation of a Medals and Awards Committee which includes the President, Vice President, Honorary Secretary and three elected members of Council.
The Award is presented at the BAUS Annual Meeting in June each year which this year was in Manchester.
