Party politics and posturing seem to be a necessarily irritating part of our democratic system, but we all have to be interested in politics to the extent that we want to help the future.
Many of us were developing our attitudes and assumptions while Margaret Thatcher was in power and saw that building business was a great way to give more people productive and fun employment. Passion and drive were acceptable qualities and financial success was to be celebrated as useful. Building on Cambridge’s academic excellence flourished in this time.
Today we continue to grow and I meet with business leaders thinking of relocating to Cambridge. The Cambridge Network is all about connecting people and our WLTM (would like to meet) pages are starting to be used for interesting questions and offers: for example, an experienced leader has been delighted to have his offer taken up for free support to start-ups.
I’ve recently been asked if Cambridge has individuals who would like to run a new innovation centre for a global company thinking of moving here. We can sound out such ideas and keep our Cambridge innovation evolving.
