Domino thanks staff and customers as it passes major production milestone

It has been a difficult year for many UK manufacturers, with the COVID-19 pandemic and dual challenge of keeping staff safe while coping with significant market and supply chain volatility.  Despite these challenges, multi-award-winning manufacturer of industrial coding, marking, and digital printing technology, Domino UK, is celebrating reaching another major production milestone.

Passing a major production milestone: Domino staff in Bar Hill deliver 30,000th Ax-Series printer.

The company has announced that its Cambridge manufacturing plant has just delivered its 30,000th Ax-Series continuous inkjet (CIJ) printer, the fastest-selling product in the company’s 40-year history.

Carl Haycock, Domino UK’s Operations Director and Global Head of Manufacturing Excellence, said: “I remember how proud the Cambridge team was when we produced the first Ax-Series in 2016, setting a new benchmark for excellence in industrial inkjet coding which would deliver significant benefits for our customers. Producing our 30,000th has made us all just as proud, particularly after what 2020 has thrown at us.”

A large proportion of Domino’s customers are in key sectors including food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and personal care, which were among those worst affected by the pandemic. Continuous inkjet is the coding solution of choice across many of these sectors, and so Domino has been under pressure to keep up with demand.

Carl continues: “COVID-19 has put a strain on manufacturing operations on a global scale – and Domino is no exception. It really tested our agility, but in the UK, there has been a huge commitment on the part of our frontline staff who have continued to work when they are needed most, and so it’s wonderful now to celebrate meeting such a significant milestone.

“I’d like to thank our entire team, who have maintained such a strong ambition for growth, and all collaborated so effectively, despite the essential changes to working practices to keep everyone safe.

“I’d also like to note our gratitude to our customers. It is thanks to their continued feedback and support we are able to manufacture top-quality, reliable solutions that have allowed them to stay compliant and protect their consumers while coping with extraordinary surges in demand.”

Domino employs 2,900 people worldwide and sells to more than 120 countries through a global network of 25 subsidiary offices and more than 200 distributors. Domino’s manufacturing facilities are located in China, Germany, India, Sweden, Switzerland, UK, and the USA.
