Downing College supports local wildlife initiatives

Downing College Cambridge has recently become a corporate member of the Cambridgeshire Wildlife Trust as part of its mission to strengthen its links with nature organisations in the community and increase its environmental credentials.

Jacqui Cressey, Conference Manager at Downing says: “As a Cambridge College we are fortunate to be located in 20 acres of lawns and trees and yet be within walking distance of the historic city centre. Already we have several nature initiatives in place within our grounds including bird and bat nesting boxes and College beehives.

“We are delighted to become a corporate member of the Cambridgeshire Wildlife Trust and look forward to participating in future events and initiatives. This marks an important step in our move to become more ‘green’ as an organisation, improving our sustainability with everything from buildings that use natural resources to providing our conference guests with tips for a green stay here. We are currently working towards the Green Tourism accreditation as official recognition of our efforts in this area.

“We believe it is important to support local initiatives like the Wildlife Trust in their mission to defend and monitor wildlife across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire, as well as managing its 125 local nature reserves and raise awareness of the wildlife on our doorstep through local groups and workshops.”
