The solar farm at Euroapi UK Ltd is now switched on, generating renewable energy to sustain the manufacturing facility for the next 30 years.
Gary Baker, the new general manager and site head, said: “As someone who has lived locally for 37 years, I am really proud of what the team has achieved. “By seeding the ground and seeking to reinstall beehives to the site in the future, we hope to update everyone with regards to additional benefits delivered by the site once further assessments have been completed.”
The site has a 40-year history on Rookwood Way and recently rebranded having spun out of Sanofi to seize opportunities to develop and manufacture medicines where companies do not have the capacity, technology or capability to do it themselves. The API in the company’s name stands for active pharmaceutical ingredients, the biologically active component of a drug product (tablet, capsule, cream, injectable) that produces the intended effects.
The solar farm decarbonises its energy systems by producing an energy output, equivalent to powering approximately 2,000 UK homes and decrease in emissions equivalent to removing 775 cars off the road each year. The panels have been constructed on an area of land largely unused by Euroapi that sits on the opposite side of Rookwood Way to the main site. More than 250 people are employed at the Haverhill site, which is Euroapi’s only facility in the UK.
