Cowan Court at Churchill College, which was officially opened by HRH The Duke of Gloucester in September, provides 68 hotel-standard double ensuite bedrooms, in addition to a new multi-purpose meeting space named the Sixties Room, after a group of early students at the College.
The venue was chosen by Jill Rogers Associates for its annual NET Conference (Networking in Healthcare Education), an international three-day residential event for healthcare educators which attracted 350 delegates.
Jill Rogers said: “NET is a complex event with one third of delegates coming from overseas and a programme that has up to 12 parallel sessions running at any one time. It was a privilege to be the first residential conference to use Cowan Court and the delegates I spoke with were impressed by the level of comfort and the light and spacious bedrooms which are airy with high ceilings. The bathrooms have efficient showers and adequate storage and the overall appearance of the court is lovely – especially the Silver Birch trees in the courtyard which catch the evening light. The lift to access all floors is great for any delegates requiring help and for those with lots of luggage!
“We have worked with Churchill College since 2008 for a range of conferences including NET, Futures, SIAM and ARM. We keep returning for a number of reasons including the fact that Churchill is one of the few College campuses with the capacity for large complex conferences and the addition of Cowan Court makes it even more appealing as nearly all delegates can be resident on site. We also find the organisation excellent with great attention to detail and the Conference Team shares our high standards. Last but not least, delegates enjoy the spacious campus and peace of the location which is close enough to walk into the city. Over the years we’ve established an excellent relationship with the staff so we can work closely together.”
Cowan Court was named in honour of the Benefactor Fellow Michael Cowan, an alumnus of the College.
Carol Robinson, Conference Manager at Churchill added: “We were delighted to welcome Jill Rogers Associates as our first residential conference to use Cowan Court and very pleased with their positive feedback. As one of our most loyal clients, it was fitting that they should see and experience the new facility and appreciate all the elements that it offers.”
The addition of Cowan Court gives a total of 200 ensuite bedrooms available for conference clients during vacations, in addition to 250 standard bedrooms and complements Churchill’s existing Dining Hall to seat 400 and purpose-built Lecture Theatre for 300.
