Focus on Cambridge and Newmarket - VIP event showcases unique venues

A VIP Weekend for some of the UK’s leading agents who seek out unusual venues for their clients’ events has just been held, with a specific focus on what Cambridge and Newmarket have to offer for conferences and events.

The showcase was organised in conjunction with Trident Hospitality by Conference Cambridge, the official free venue-finding service for the University and its Colleges, as well as hotels and other unique properties in and around Cambridge.

The two-day VIP programme was attended by ten Agents and partners, as well as major event industry representatives including Juliet Price, Chair of the HBAA, the trade association for the hotel booking and venue community and Paul Colston, Editor of Conference News, one of the industry’s flagship publications.

Guests arrived to an afternoon tea at the Jockey Club Rooms, enjoyed accommodation at The Bedford Lodge Hotel in Newmarket and Madingley Hall, visited Downing College for a mini-Expo of 15 venues, participated in a ‘Live The City’ treasure hunt which gave the opportunity to explore Cambridge, took traditional Afternoon Tea at Hotel Felix and concluded the day with a drinks reception and dinner in the Old Library at Girton College.

Kelly Vickers, Manager of Conference Cambridge said: “The weekend was brilliant; we were privileged to be joined by so many Agents, with a genuine interest in Cambridge and Newmarket.

“Our venues pulled out all the stops to offer a completely exclusive event, from the BBQ at the Bedford Lodge Hotel and a visit to Luca Cumani’s yard and the opportunity to see the horses on morning exercise on the gallops, to the venue networking opportunity at Downing College and a closing sumptuous dinner at Girton College. We certainly did our best to put Cambridge and Newmarket on the map.”

Guests attending have already given enthusiastic and positive feedback. ‘From the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty’; ‘It was a superb weekend, entertaining, educational and all great fun at the same time’ and ‘A fantastic weekend and a great insight into the delights Cambridge has to offer’.
