Free event to help businesses grow in Fenland

Businesses in Fenland will discover the benefits of bringing new skills into their business at a free event taking place in Wisbech next week.

The half-day event on Tuesday 24 November will help business owners to identify the skills gaps within their business that have the potential to prohibit future growth, before showcasing the success of local companies that have already invested in developing new skills within their workforce.

ALS Food and Pharmaceutical, based in Chatteris, will demonstrate the long-term benefits of investing in skills and explain how apprenticeships can be the beginning of a much longer relationship with an employee. They will share the journey of an apprentice who, once he’d completed his training, continued to progress his career within the company and is now a team leader.

Companies will also hear from an award-winning apprentice, Tristan Lee from Worzals in Wisbech, on the benefits that high-quality training can bring not just to the individual but to the wider company, and the impact this has on staff loyalty and motivation.

Rosemary Green, Chair of Fenland Chamber of Commerce, said: “Developing the skills base that will enable companies to continue to grow in the future is a key priority for businesses and we are keen to facilitate connections between local companies and the training providers that are experienced in helping businesses identify and fill those skills gaps. We hope that our guest speakers, all from local companies who have already benefitted from this expertise, will also inspire others to take advantage of the extensive support and training that is available.”

The free event is being organised by Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce in partnership with Peterborough Regional College, The College of West Anglia, Fenland District Council and the Greater Cambridge Greater Peterborough Enterprise Partnership.
