This ‘going it alone’ mentality is resulting in people sacrificing their long term financial security when they experience money troubles. According to research* from Legal & General, 34% of people living in the East would use their savings to compensate for a permanent reduction in income over reducing their spending on non-essentials**, such as TV subscriptions, phone contracts or gym memberships.
To help people improve their financial confidence, Legal & General, one of the UK’s largest insurance and investment management groups, is partnering with Rough Guides, a leading travel publisher known for its well-informed content and ‘tell it like it is’ style, to launch the first ever ‘Rough Guide to Personal Finance’ series.
The series of ebooks will cover all life stages, from raising children to education, work and retirement. All ebooks will be free to download and are authored by independent experts.
Legal & General Chief Executive Nigel Wilson said: “The aim of the Rough Guide to Personal Finances series is to give people no-nonsense, practical and clear information, so they can feel more confident about taking control of their finances for today and in the future. Money can often be a cause of stress and feel too confusing to tackle, meaning many people make ends meet rather than think positively about what a difference financial planning could make to their lives.”
Legal & General consultants are on hand throughout The Cambridge's branch network to provide advice to customers on life assurance, critical illness insurance and investment products.
Customer Contact Centre manager Harriet Baptie says: “On the front line of financial services we know how confusing some people find financial matters, and for good reason as there’s a lot of detail to take in.
“We do all we can to explain things in a straightforward way but to have a whole series of ebooks, covering so many different aspects, is just brilliant.
“It’s great Legal & General and Rough Guides have teamed up to do this and I have no doubt they will be hugely useful to so many people.”
The first book focuses on Family Finances and is intended to help people with all aspects of family life from the basics of budgeting to caring for elderly relatives and the costs of bringing up children.
