This charitable organisation aims to enable anyone struggling with bereavement to understand their grief and cope with their loss. Launched in 1965, Cambridge Cruse supported over 400 people last year in Cambridge and its surrounding areas.
Hillary Linsey from Cambridge, an Engage Mutual customer, and Cruse volunteer for more than 20 years, signed up to the mutual’s ‘engage with your community’ initiative in order to help Cruse expand its service and help more people in the area.
Cruse was one of three successful charities chosen to receive funding from a range of UK-wide applications received by Engage Mutual.
Engage Mutual will provide around £4,000 worth of financial support and will work alongside the charity to help improve its computer systems and ensure the dedicated telephone Helpline can remain operational five days a week.
Speaking of the support Hillary said: "The support from Engage Mutual will mean the system currently used, which is in desperate need of updating and improving, can be replaced. This will then offer speedier processes, ensure the Helpline is operational for its advertised five days a week and generally offer a more efficient service."
"Over 85 per cent of our callers are recommended to call us by their GP. Our aim is to help these clients in our community who are vulnerable in their grief, need support and understanding to move along the bereavement path and ultimately find peace of mind."
The ‘engage with your community’ initiative was open to all customers of Engage Mutual who are regularly involved with a good cause or community initiative.
Tina Jessop, Head of Brand at Engage Mutual, explains: “As a mutual organisation we are committed to supporting our local communities and good causes.
“The aim of engage with your community was to encourage and reward our customers for doing the same. The work which CARES undertakes has a real positive impact on its local community and I hope our support can help to cement that.”
